Home advantage for UK investors

At the beginning of January, three of our UK equity portfolio managers sat down with Richard Romer Lee of Square Mile to discuss the outlook for UK investors. The team covered a variety of topics, with contributions from Chris St John (UK Mid Cap), Simon Young, (UK Equity Income) and Dan Harlow (UK small cap).

While another national lockdown had been announced the week before filming, the team remained optimistic on the UK, driven by expectations of rebound later in the year as the COVID-19 vaccination programme is ramped up. With clarity on the UK-EU trading relationship, we believe investor sentiment towards the UK should gradually improve in the year ahead, and continue to see plenty of opportunities at an underlying stock level.

Home advantage for UK investors

As well as taking questions from attendees, the team covered:

  • A review of 2020 performance
  • Reasons to allocate to the UK in the year ahead
  • The UK’s lack of technology exposure and whether this will hold back the market
  • Upcoming IPOs in 2021
  • The outlook for UK dividends
  • ESG investment in UK equities
